New York Road Runners. As I begin my training (hello, June 1st) for the 2011 NYC Marathon now is a great time to be reflecting on why I love to run. So, thank you Katie and NYRR for the inspiration!! :) 26.2: amazing scenery all around the city
25: you can vary your route each time you run
24: a 5 mile run can take you to china, italy, and beyond
23: you can do hills, a flat run, speed-work, long distance, whatever you want — we have all terrains.
22: this running town has an amazing and inspiring running community.
21: there are always other runners out to make me both jealous and work harder
20: no shortage of specialty running stores to feed my addiction and let me geek out with gear
19: the city’s soundtrack is sometimes better than my own
18: there are bathrooms, i mean starbucks, on every corner
17:in the summer they close down park ave and we runners take over
16: following #17, the city is very runner friendly and the NYC marathon feels like a holiday
15: NYRR has races nearly every weekend of the year, no matter the weather, so you can always set a goal or challenge yourself
14: Bridges!
13: running in NYC can sometimes feel like real time training on obstacle courses
12: a daily run can be like a daily tour of a place you’ve never been
11: we raise money for everything
10: running can sometimes be the most efficient mode of transportation in the city
9: NYC runners are hard core, intense, competitors
8: i love feeling like i’m part of something bigger and sharing that special nod and wink with other NYC runners
7: great socializing! with so many runners out there in the big city you can always make a new friend
6: NYC is expensive, no doubt about it. Running is cheap and accessible and you can do it anywhere in the city you are.
5: east river drive, west side highway, van vorst, the GW — some of the most iconic locations in the world can be explored on your feet.
4: famous people run too! you can see everyone’s fav governor elliot spitzer logging miles around the reservoir
3: less NYC specific, more running specific — we have our own language and way of talking - about the city and about the sport
2: you can reward yourself after a hard workout any one of hundreds of amazing restaurants
